The weather was perfect in downtown Missoula on Saturday morning for the start of the first leg of the 2015 YMCA Riverbank Run, the 10k event.

Missoula Mayor John Engen has been the official starter for the event for several years, and came to understand the importance of such events to Missoulians.

"This is a running community, and when I see how many families with kids get into these events, it helped me understand why they love to get out in the fresh air and do these races together," he said. "It's a great fundraiser for the YMCA and it's just a very Missoula thing."

Runners and walkers will have the opportunity to participate in the 10k, the 5k and the one-mile fun run throughout the morning, culminating in a gathering at Caras Park at about noon.
