Paraglider Found Dead After Accident in Lake County
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Officials in northwestern Montana say a 25-year-old Idaho man died in an apparent paragliding accident over the weekend.
Lake County officials tell the Missoulian the body of Jared Lee Petite of Eagle, Idaho, was at the base of a cliff Saturday morning.
Officials say Petite and another man hiked up a rock face northeast of Elmo Friday evening. Friends saw one man fill his chute, jump off the cliff and glide to a designated landing zone.
Witnesses say Petite filled his chute, but then pulled it back in and appeared not to jump. He appeared to pack up his chute and turn away from the cliff face, so witnesses thought he was going to hike back down.
Petite was reported missing at around midnight Friday.
