Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman has invited the governors of other Missouri River states and the Army Corps of Engineers to a meeting on flood control issues.

Heineman issued the invitation on Thursday to Iowa, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Missouri and the corps. The meeting is set for Aug. 19 in Omaha.

Heineman spokeswoman Jen Rae Hein (hine) says specific issues to be discussed are still being worked out.

The corps has been criticized for its management of the Missouri River reservoirs in the Upper Midwest that have been swollen by heavy spring snowmelt and rains. Some dam releases have been at record levels. The corps has said the reservoirs were in good shape to handle spring runoff until records rains fell upstream in May.
