Montana State University has set a spring enrollment record for the seventh straight year, while the University of Montana reports an enrollment drop of 4.7 percent.

Spring enrollment on the Bozeman campus is 14,323 students, an increase of 221 over last year and 623 more than two years ago. Chris Kearns, vice president of student success at MSU, says much of the growth is in the colleges of agriculture, business and engineering.

Spring enrollment at UM was 12,922, down from 14,706 in the spring of 2012. UM's highest recent enrollment was 15,669 in the fall of 2011.

Spokeswoman Peggy Kuhr says they're seeing more freshmen enrolling at UM and 91 percent of those enrolled last fall remained in school this spring.
