2025 First: Montana Gas Prices Drop for Second Week in a Row
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - To start 2025, average gas prices in Montana have increased in 13 out of 15 weeks. This week, prices dropped for the third time. Patrick De Haan is the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, and he provided the current numbers.
“Average gasoline prices in Montana have fallen 1.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.12 per gallon today,” De Haan said. “Prices in Montana are 4.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 44.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.”
As of Monday morning, many stations in Missoula had their prices set to around $3.13 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Montana was priced at $2.86 per gallon yesterday, while the most expensive was $3.59 per gallon.
Montana is currently ranked 13th in the U.S. when it comes to the average price of gas, which is one spot higher than last week.
“The national average price of gasoline has fallen 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.10 per gallon today,” De Haan said. “The national average is down 1.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 54.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 2.7 cents in the last week and stands at $3.52 per gallon.”

De Haan said the national average has seen its second straight weekly decline, with gas prices falling in over 40 states.
“However, some states have seen increases due to localized price cycling," said De Haan. "With oil prices rallying over the past week, we may start to see the downward trend in gas prices begin to stall. So far, 2025 has been relatively calm at the pump for most Americans, thanks in part to OPEC’s ongoing restoration of oil production and continued uncertainty surrounding tariff policy and its potential impact on the global economy.”
Regardless, De Haan said Americans are currently spending over $200 million less per day on gasoline compared to this time last year.
