This is How Authorities Apprehended Anaconda Killer
Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen believes pressure from the extensive search efforts pushed killer Michael Brown out of hiding and closer to Anaconda, where he was arrested Friday afternoon.
Knudsen says the manhunt ended when Brown was arrested just off MT 1 near the Ranch Bar, which is just south of the highway.
"We got our man," Knudsen said during his statement, going on to praise the combined law enforcement effort that led to the apprehension a week after Brown gunned down four people at the Owl Bar.
Governor Greg Gianforte praised the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for using "every resource available", saying "thank you doesn't cover" what the community owes to their "tireless" efforts.
Details still withheld
Authorities aren't saying much about the details of the arrest. Asked whether Brown was armed at the time of his arrest, Knudsen would merely say he wanted to be "careful" about that information, saying Brown was "technically armed."
County Attorney Morgan Smith was also reluctant to share more details, saying "detailed would be withheld" to "protect the integrity" of the investigation and case going forward.
DCI Director Lee Johnson told reporters the big push of the search yesterday "contributed" to Brown's apprehension, that the task force didn't know "exactly where he was at", but "knew where they needed to search."
