Montana AG Touts 24 – 7 Sobriety Program Nationwide [YouTube]
The 24/7 sobriety program has been a great success in Montana, and Attorney General Tim Fox had the opportunity to share the program last week with several other state's Attorneys General.
"The National Attorneys General Association had their annual meeting last week at Charlotte, North Carolina, and because of the success of the 24/7 sobriety program, they invited us along with representatives from South Dakota, where the program originated, along with Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Lacey Wickham and we talked about the origins of the program, the statistics and success we've had along with the challenges," Fox said.
Fox said the other Attorneys General were impressed with the statistics in Montana from the 24/7 sobriety program.
"The Rand Corporation recently did a study where Montana has significantly reduced recidivism in the last three years," he said. "I'm also happy to report that we've been able to expand the program from 17 Montana counties to 39, which covers over 90 percent of the state's population."
The 24/7 sobriety program is specifically for repeat DUI offenders. They must pass a breathalyzer test twice a day at their own expense, once in the morning and once in the evening.
"I'm so glad to see so many other states interested in the program to try to keep repeat DUI offenders off the road,"
Over the summer, Fox, the Montana Department of Justice and the Montana Highway Patrol, invited representatives from around the region to Big Sky Resort to discuss the 24/7 program.
