Missoulians Want to Help Fund Local Law Enforcement

Citizens of Missoula have created a go fund me page for the City of Missoula Police Department and the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office. On Thursday, Kathy Armstrong called KGVO and she explained why this funding is so necessary.

“Our goal is to raise $10,000,” Armstrong said. “I don’t know if the community is aware, but bullet proof vests are about $800 and officers only get $600. The remaining balance has to come out of their pocket. In today’s age when so many people are saying defund the police, as far as we are concerned, they certainly don’t get enough money. They put their lives on the line every day to protect all of us and our families.”

According to Armstrong, the money will be available for members of law enforcement who need a little extra help.

“All of the money donated will be divided between both agencies,” Armstrong said. “They will go directly to the Missoula Police Protective Association and the Missoula County Deputy Sheriff’s Associations. They can use it for whatever protective gear they deem necessary. It is not necessarily going to the agency. The money will go directly to where the officers will have access to it.”

Armstrong said these men and women risk their lives on a daily basis and she believes they deserve support from the Missoula community.

“We are here to show our support,” Armstrong said. “We are a law abiding country. Without law and order, there would be chaos and anarchy. It started out as a couple friends that grew into more friends that grew into more friends. Every day we hear from people who ask what they can do to help, how can we make a change, how can we stand up to this violence, and show our support and love. That is how it came about.”
