A stable high pressure system is sitting above Western Montana right now, causing inversions that are forcing smoke from the surrounding wildfires down to the valley floor, making breathing more difficult, especially for at risk groups. National Weather Service Forecaster Ryan Leach explain the situation.

The City County Health Department says air quality in Missoula and Frenchtown is listed as moderate, however air quality in Lolo and south into the Bitterroot Valley is listed as unhealthy. The Health Departments says at risk groups should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
