Trespasser Vandalizes Senior Citizen Center in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - At approximately 12:06 p.m. on May 21, 2025, a Missoula Police Department officer was dispatched to a report of trespassing and vandalism at the Senior Citizens Center. The reporting party said a female, 65-year-old Katherine McElderry, was threatening people and kicking the door to the building.
McElderry had been trespassed from the Senior Citizens Center on May 11, 2023. When the officer arrived, several people indicated to him that the person he was there looking for had just left, but was still in the area. The officer met with a staff member who said McElderry was at the bus stop on 5th Street. The officer relayed the information to another officer and asked if he could attempt to locate her.
The staff member said he recognized McElderry as someone who had been trespassed, but when he saw her inside the facility, he elected not to address the issue during lunch. When he reminded McElderry of her trespass and told her to go, she became argumentative. He tried to escort her from the building, but as she was leaving, she hit the window in the front door, causing it to break. The officer observed a chip in the glass.

Another officer located McElderry and detained her. The investigating officer met with them near the intersection of S. 5th Street and Myrtle. Before he could ask McElderry any questions, she made several excited utterances, including that she knew the people at the Senior Citizens Center didn't like her and she would never go back there again.

The officer provided Miranda warnings and attempted to question McElderry, however, she continued talking over him and ultimately denied breaking the glass. McElderry was placed under arrest and was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. She is currently being charged with felony burglary, and her bond was set at $5,000.
According to Municipal Court records, McElderry currently has six outstanding warrants from the Missoula Municipal Court.
