Superintendent of Missoula County Public School District One Alex Apostle is planning to implement a school safety task force for Missoula schools.

Monday morning, students, teachers and parents were greeted by uniformed officers of the Missoula Police Department as they arrived at their schools. Missoula Police Chief Mark Muir assured Dr. Apostle over the weekend that officers would be on hand to reassure students of their safety at school.

Apostle says that because most of Missoula schools were constructed 40 to 50 years ago, the issue of security was not of paramount importance, so Apostle says he is organizing a task force of administrators, principals, teachers and community members to address the issue. The task force will be formed just after the new year.
