Missoula Man With $100,000 Warrants Caught With Expired Plates
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On February 14, 2023, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was patrolling Highway 10, near Bonner, when he observed two vehicles. One vehicle was following closely behind the other and both had expired registrations. The deputy was familiar with these two vehicles and knew of them to be connected with 32-year-old Tyler Tilton. The deputy also knew that Tilton had over $100,000 in felony warrants.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for having an expired registration. As the deputy exited the vehicle, he saw the driver and confirmed him to be Tilton. At this time, the Deputy placed Tilton under arrest for his outstanding warrants.
When Tilton exited the vehicle, he rolled up all his windows and locked the keys inside. The deputy, based on his training and experience, believed Tilton may be concealing something within the vehicle. During a search incident to arrest, the deputy found a pipe that appeared to be used to ingest drugs.
Tilton was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with the deputy. Tilton admitted that the pipe was for smoking meth. Tilton also consented to a search of his vehicle. While searching within the vehicle, the deputy found behind the passenger seat, inside the seat cloth, methamphetamine.
According to court documents, the meth weighed approximately 13.2 grams. The deputy also learned later that Tilton’s driver’s license was suspended. Tilton is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, and operating a motor vehicle with expired registration.
