Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On March 25, 2025, at approximately 6:55 p.m., officers with the Missoula Police Department responded to a welfare check on Kemp Street. The 911 caller reported that a female appeared to be unconscious inside a running Ford Explorer. An officer arrived on scene first and located the running Explorer and the apparently unconscious/asleep female, identified as 40-year-old Keera Ackley, parked along the curb of the roadway.

According to court documents, the officer could not tell if Ackley was breathing. He began loudly banging on the vehicle, but Ackley did not respond. The officer attempted to open the vehicle’s door, but it was locked. He again knocked loudly on the vehicle, and Ackley woke up. She began screaming but stopped after realizing he was a police officer.

The officer observed that Ackley’s eyes were very red and watery. Her face also appeared “droopy.” Ackley stated that she was ok. When asked if she realized she was asleep, Ackley nervously laughed and said that she “gets tired very often.”

The officer believed Ackley was slurring her words and struggling to formulate responses during their conversation. The officer asked Ackley to exit the vehicle because his observations lead him to conclude Ackley may be under the influence. Ackley admitted to drinking earlier that day. Another officer observed a “mini” bottle of what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage on the floorboard of the Explorer.

The officer asked Ackley to perform field sobriety tests. She demonstrated six out of six clues of impairment on the HGN test and seven out of eight clues of impairment on the walk-and-turn test. Ackley informed the officer that she has knee-pain issues that affect her ability to do the field sobriety tests. The officer elected not to have her do the one-leg-stand test.

The officer read Ackley the PAST Advisory and she agreed to provide a breath sample on the PBT unit. It revealed a .166 (BrAC). Ackley was placed under arrest and was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. She is currently being charged with felony DUI. She has three prior DUI convictions on her record, making this a fourth offense. Her bond was set at $65,000.
