Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On September 27, 2025, at approximately 10:40 PM, a Missoula Police Department Officer was working patrol near the intersection of Higgins St. and Main St. The officer received a walk-up complaint of a male passed out behind the steering wheel of a running vehicle in the east 100 block of Main Street. The complainant described the vehicle as a silver sedan with dented doors and vomit on the ground next to the driver's door.

The officer located the car and approached the driver's door. The officer observed a pool of vomit on the ground under the driver-side door, observed the vehicle was running, and observed the driver had his seat reclined and was sleeping in the driver's seat. The officer knocked on the window and asked if the driver was ok. The driver rolled down the window and explained that he had had a few drinks and was trying to stay warm while he slept.

The driver was later identified as 52-year-old Jarrod Fife. The officer noted that Fife had bloodshot and watery eyes, had slurred speech, and a dazed expression. Another officer asked Fife if he was suffering from any medical emergency, and Fife stated he was not. The officer asked Fife to exit the vehicle, and as he did. The officer noted Fife had a hard time balancing, which caused him to sway.

Officer Starts a DUI Investigation

The officer asked Fife if he would be willing to participate in the standardized field sobriety tests, and Fife agreed. The officer instructed Fife in the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus and observed 6/6 clues. Fife declined to participate in the Walk and Turn and One Leg Stand due to physical limitations.

At this time, Fife mentioned that he was on parole. An officer spoke with the on-call probation officer, who requested a search of Fife's vehicle for any parole violations. Officers searched Fife's vehicle and discovered a Smirnoff alcoholic beverage in the center console. The officer read Fife the PAST Advisory, and Fife provided a sample above the legal limit.
