Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On April 18th, 2025, Missoula Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of Cooley Street for a report of a vehicle trespass and assault with a weapon. The primary caller advised that an individual had broken into his significant other’s vehicle, threatened to stab people, and was attempting to break into a trailer.

Upon arrival, officers interviewed the caller and his significant other, C.G. The caller advised that he observed an individual, later identified as 39-year-old Ren Husfloen, standing by his significant other’s vehicle, which had its right rear door open. He further stated that Husfloen later threatened them with a knife. C.G. stated that nobody should be inside her vehicle. Both the caller and C.G. confronted Husfloen, yelling at him and asking why he was inside their vehicle. Husfloen claimed he had permission to enter the vehicle from someone else and then told them to leave him alone.

C.G. advised that her 15-year-old son, John Doe, heard the commotion outside and began arguing with Husfloen. C.G. said Husfloen refused to leave her vehicle until she started pushing him away from the area, and Doe came outside. Doe started following Husfloen down the alley while Husfloen was saying that he was going to call law enforcement. C.G. said that was when Husfloen turned around and pulled a knife out.

An officer interviewed Doe. When asked how it made him feel when he saw the knife, Doe said that he backed up because he was “not trying to get stuck.” When asked whether he backed up because he did not want to get hurt, Doe replied “yeah” while nodding his head. C.G. and Doe claimed that the suspect threatened to stab them while walking backward and made a motion toward them again with the knife. They described the knife, which was not found, as being six to eight inches in length.

Husfloen Shares His Story

An officer Mirandized Husfloen, who agreed to an interview. Husfloen said a male who lives in Spokane said he could use tools that were located within a vehicle down the street. While searching for tools, Husfloen said he was confronted by a female who grabbed him by the wrist. The female confronted him about being by her vehicle.

Husfloen said he began to retreat, but he heard a male’s voice behind him and felt like he was being ambushed. According to court documents, Husfloen admitted he pulled out his knife and opened it, but claimed he placed it down by his side and did not threaten to stab anyone.

Husfloen said he turned around and noticed the male was a juvenile, which he claimed he had mistaken for an adult. While Husfloen was walking away, he said the juvenile male began yelling slurs and threatening to fight him multiple times. Husfloen claimed the incident was in self-defense.
