Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 10, 2024, Missoula Police Department Officers were dispatched to a report of shoplifting at Winco. The Loss Prevention Officer advised that they caught a male stealing who was previously trespassed from the store from an incident on May 8, 2024. The LPO advised the male’s name was Waymon Collins.

An officer responded and reviewed surveillance footage showing the male grabbing alcohol, exiting the store passing all points of sale, and failing to pay for the alcohol. The officer read the male his Miranda rights. The male agreed to speak to the officer and admitted he stole the alcohol. The male also confirmed his name was Waymon Collins.

The officer was aware that the previous incident involved the male stealing alcohol and questioned the male about the May 8 incident. The male responded by smiling and snickering, then stated, “Yeah, that is absolutely accurate.” The male was arrested.

The male advised the handcuffs were causing him pain and he became uncooperative. The officer asked the male if he needed medical attention and the male stated, “Yes.” The male then advised he needed medical because he was having an active seizure. Medical and firefighters arrived and determined the male was not having a seizure.

Medical suggested the male be taken to the hospital for further examination prior to jail transport. The male was transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital. While at the hospital, the male began yelling obscenities at the officer and hospital staff.

The officer provided medical staff with the name Waymon Collins. Security personnel at the hospital recognized the male from previous encounters and knew his name was Clayton Hammond. The officer verified the male was Clayton Hammond.

The Winco LPO sent the officer a photograph of the male who the staff dealt with during the May 8 incident. The officer observed it was the same as the male he had under arrest. It became apparent to the officer that Hammond used a false name on the May 8 incident as well as the current incident.

Hammond is currently being charged with felony burglary, obstructing a peace officer, and disorderly conduct.
