Man given suspended sentence for stabbing mom
BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — A judge gave a 45-year-old Bozeman man a suspended sentence for stabbing his mother in the leg during an argument over taking out the garbage.
Alexander Scott Sawicki's sentence is the result of a plea agreement that reduced an assault charge to criminal endangerment.
Sawicki had been in jail for 131 days before his release Monday.
The sheriff's report says Mona Beauchamp called 911 several times to report she was arguing with her son about taking out the garbage. Officials say both sounded intoxicated. Sawicki said he would have to drive three miles to take the garbage to a drop-off spot and didn't want to drive while drunk.
The Associated Press reports Sawicki told his mother in court that he never meant to hurt her.
