Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - The Missoula County Attorney’s Office filed 17 new felony complaints this week, which is 12 less than last week. According to Deputy County Attorney Mac Bloom, this was one of our lowest crime rate weeks of the year.

“Eight of the crimes were violent crimes against persons,” Bloom said. “Breaking that down even further, of those violent crimes, five of them were family violence/strangulation and then three of them were non-family robbery crimes. We had four endangerment crimes, two property crimes, two drug crimes, and then one administrative crime.”

Bloom said 14 of the cases this week were in custody charges and the rest were out of custody.

“When someone is arrested on a felony offense, the county attorney's office has 48 hours to file charges, or else that person is released,” Bloom said. “So once somebody's taken into custody, the clock starts ticking very quickly. We have two attorneys assigned each morning to look at the in-custody cases and to work on getting those filed within that 48-hour deadline.”

Bloom was asked if there were any changes to the crime rate following the big storm that swept through Missoula a few weeks ago.

“I didn’t see much of a change, and I definitely didn't see any crimes relating to folks looting people's homes and taking advantage of the situation,” Bloom said. “So that was good. I think that the storm really did bring Missoula together and that should be viewed in a positive light because it certainly didn't seem to affect our office.”

The Missoula County Attorney’s Office provides a weekly crime report every Friday morning at 9:00 on Talk Back. You can listen to Bloom’s full report below:
