Jason Christ challenges 2011 Medical Marijuana Law
A Missoula businessman whose "cannabis caravans" helped thousands of Montanans sign up for medical marijuana cards is challenging the 2011 state law that restricts access to medical marijuana.
Jason Christ filed the lawsuit in Missoula on Dec. 6. It focuses on a provision that prohibits people under state supervision from using medical marijuana.
Christ says the law violates his constitutional rights to equal protection, due process, dignity and his right to pursue life's basic necessities.
The lawsuit acknowledges that Christ faces an intimidation charge and, if convicted, he couldn't use medical marijuana to treat Crohn's disease and hemorrhoids.
A Justice Department spokeswoman says the agency will review the complaint for any new issues not addressed in another lawsuit now before the Montana Supreme Court.
