Help Missoula Firefighters Climb for a Great Cause
It's already that time of the year for Montana firefighters to hit the gym and start training for the epic Seattle Stairclimb, which is just a few weeks away.
For Missoula firefighters, it's an especially important endeavor, raising funds to help fight leukemia and lymphoma, but to defend their continued dominance of the event.
This week you can do your part.

What is the Missoula Climb Off?
Wednesday, February 5th, at the Peak Blue Mountain firefighters from Missoula City Fire and the Missoula Rural Fire Department will take to the stairclimbers for the second annual Climb Off. It's an exciting showdown between the two teams that's more than just a friendly competition; it’s a heartfelt effort to raise funds and awareness for cancer patients and their families.
The day kicks off at 10 AM and continues until 1 PM, followed by a break before resuming at 3 PM. The highlight of the day, the climactic Climb Off, begins at 5 PM. Watch as the fastest firefighters from both departments battle it out on stair mills, pushing their limits while wearing self-contained breathing apparatus. Each team will have three members, and the goal is to climb as many flights as possible in a 30-minute period.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by, cheer on the participants, and even try on some gear to get a taste of the challenge in Seattle. Last year it proved to be fun.
I don't think we'd done that before with city and rural," says MFD Stairclimber Andrew Pace. "We've got kind of two opposing stair mills that face each other and you look over and you see another guy sweating or a girl sweating and you're doing the same thing. And so it does motivate you to keep moving."

Your steps count too
This year, the Peak decided that anyone climbing at the Blue Mountain or Downtown locations can also have their steps count to the competition.
The event promises not only thrilling competition but also fun activities, raffles, music, and giveaways. Prizes include coolers from Tremper's Ace Hardware, gift baskets from Good Food Store, and movie tickets from The Roxy.
All proceeds from the raffle and donations will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, adding an extra layer of significance to the day’s events.
