If you've been wanting to adopt a smaller dog, Sam might be just the guy for you.

It was another Take Me Home Tuesday at the radio stations, sponsored locally by the animal-loving folks at Paul's Pancake Parlor in Missoula. Janet from the Humane Society of Western Montana brought in Sam, an adorable and quiet little guy who loves his cheese treats.Weighing in at 18 pounds and at around one year old, he's probably about as big as he is going to get - the perfect dog for apartments or small homes and yards. Janet says he is very mild-mannered in the car, and just so happy and eager to please.

And he had quite the journey in search of his forever home.

DOG IS MY CO-PILOT

A group of airline pilots team up to fly dogs around the country from overcrowded shelters to facilities that can handle periodic transfers. The "Dog is My Co-Pilot" program is funded in large part nationally by Petco.

Los Angeles County shelters are extremely overcrowded, so the Missoula shelter agreed to accept 11 small-to-medium sized dogs. Sam is part of that California canine contingent that arrived last Friday. The shelter also ended up agreeing to take three larger dogs.

NOT MUCH OF A "TAIL" TO TELL

Little is know about Sam's background. Janet thinks he possibly could have resided in either a one-floor dwelling, as he is a little hesitant on stairs, or perhaps even homeless out on the street. He seems to be housebroken, and he will need a little extra time and patience from you while he adapts to knew surroundings. But it's very apparent that he is anxious to be a really good boy.

The Humane Society of Western Montana is open 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays at 5930 U.S. Hwy 93 South, Missoula. You can see other pets they have waiting for adoption, both dogs and cats, on their website

If you immediately fell in love with Sam like we did, don't wait.
