This weekend all across Montana the number one topic was the weather and the low temperatures. Records were set in multiple locations through the state. There were events and flights cancelled. Businesses closed for some of the weekend. Ski resorts shut down on Friday and had delayed starts on Saturday. Even though the forecast was pretty accurate earlier in the week and we knew the cold was coming, it was still a shock to the system.

Montana's Extreme Weather Is Different Than Others

People like to team weather extremes with food. It is something that is easy to identify with and easy to explain. Over the years the heat in some areas of the United States have been so extreme that people have been able to fry an egg on the sidewalk. That seemed to be the norm for talking about the heat. The past few years people have upped their game when it comes to the heat. We read about people who were able to bake cookies in their car. We attempted that one, it didn't work out as well as we thought it would, probably because it is still Montana.

Montana Doesn't Get the Heat Like Other States

A woman went viral last year for baking bread in her mailbox during a heatwave in Houston. According to Snopes.com that turned out to be a hoax. We won't be frying or baking anything creatively in Montana any time soon. Some people did take advantage of the cold to create some "food/weather art". The video below from laneyroux76 on TikTok has gone viral with almost 23 million views and 1.9 million "likes". The video is from our neighbors to the north in Alberta, Canada.

Fun With an Egg in Montana Weather

They weren't the only ones to play with their food. Garth Reibe and Kari A Reibe, on Facebook, used an egg to illustrate how cold it was in Alberton, Montana. The amazing frozen egg picture, with the mountains in the background, was their answer to those videos of people frying eggs on sidewalks.

Even With the Fun, Be Safe Montana

It is great to see people try and make the most out of the weather we had over the weekend. The good news is we are going to be crawling out this cold spell. It is always a good reminder to be safe when Montana gets extreme weather. Check in on your neighbors, and friends and make sure pets and livestock are taken care of.
