The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is reporting a ground beef recall that can affect Montana residents.

What Montana Consumers Should Know About the Recall

Mountain West Food Group LLC, from Heyburn, Idaho, is recalling 2,855 pounds of ground beef that could be contaminated with E. coli O26. The raw ground beef was produced on December 16, 2025. The beef was distributed to Montana, Idaho, Washington, California, Colorado, and Pennsylvania.

How to Identify the Recalled Ground Beef

The recalled beef is listed as follows:

  • 16-oz. (1-lb.) vacuum-sealed packages containing “FORWARD FARMS GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF” with “USE OF FREEZE BY 01/13/26 EST 2083” printed on the side of the packaging.

At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of illness. Anyone concerned about illness should contact their healthcare provider.

What to Do If You Purchased This Beef

FSIS is concerned that packages of ground beef may still be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers, and is urging customers not to consume these products. The beef should be disposed of or returned to the point of purchase.

E.coli O26 is a serovar of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). People can become ill from STECs up to 34 days after exposure to the organism.

According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of E. coli can be diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting.
