For those who have hesitated to take Missoula’s Polar Plunge in the past due to the frigid February temperatures, maybe this year is your year to take the plunge for a great cause.

What Is the Griz Dip Polar Plunge?

The Montana Special Olympics will be hosting its annual “Griz Dip” Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 21, at the Missoula Fairgrounds starting at noon.

Why This Year’s Weather Could Change Everything

This year’s weather looks milder than usual in Western Montana, so maybe we will see more people willing to jump into some cold water to help raise funds for the Special Olympics of Montana.

It has been my honor to be involved with the Special Olympics of Montana over the years. I have met some of the most amazing and brave athletes, coaches, and volunteers who make these events happen.

A big part of these events is the men and women of Montana’s law enforcement community who are part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. They not only protect and serve, but they have also raised millions of dollars for the Special Olympics. They carry the torch across the state of Montana every year before the state games.

If you don’t dare to take the plunge this year, no problem. There are many ways you can donate to the cause. You can donate funds and sponsor a jumper, or you can attend the event and purchase some ice to throw into the water. That’s one of my favorite ways to donate.

Montana’s Special Olympics can always use coaches, volunteers, and mentors for the athletes, so please consider volunteering your time; it’s worth it.
