Thanksgiving is a time for practicing traditions. You might be running in a Turkey Trot, or maybe there's a special dish you only make once a year and you'll be baking all day. For a lot of Missoulians, the Friday after Thanksgiving is a day to #optoutside, which has become a bit of a tradition, too.

It's an initiative that was started by REI back in 2015 when they decided to close stores for Black Friday and encourage everyone to go outside instead. You can read the full history on their website, but it's a movement that has spread to millions of people.

So you may see a lot of Missoulians on the trails this holiday weekend. We saw this post on Miriam Goersdof's Instagram page where she creates content about adventure and travel in Utah. She asked AI to roast Salt Lake City's best hikes.

We've played the A.I. "roast" game before so we thought we'd try it again.

Nothing like a little fun to share around the Thanksgiving table and again, it's all in fun. We asked ChatGPT, "Choose 5 of Missoula's most popular hiking trails and roast them like a comedian" and again, A.I. did not disappoint.

A.I. Roasts Missoula's 5 Most Popular Trails and For Some, Its Not Wrong

Having a little fun, we asked A.I. to put on its "comedian" hat and roast Missoula trails. Here's what it said:

We have a few notes:

  • We know ultramarathon runners who train using the "M" trail so A.I. was spot on for that trail.
  • The view of the summit not worth it? We beg to differ. Just ask the Missoula Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club.
  • We had to laugh at the REI reference on the Rattlesnake Trail given this whole exercise was sort of inspired by #optoutside.
  • A.I. may think Blue Mountain causes trauma but we think A.I. engaged in too much drama.
  • "Sidewalk that just happens to be next to a river." Well played, A.I. Well played.

We asked Montanans, on a scale of 1-5, 1 being 'no thanks' and 5 being 'let's go!' how much are you looking forward to the 'Yellowstone' premiere this weekend?
