Last week, Griz Head Coach Bobby Hauck announced his retirement.

This week, the University of Illinois Fighting Illini announced that they hired a new defensive coordinator.

His name? Robert Lawrence Hauck.

 


 


"I am excited to welcome Coach Hauck and his family to our Illini FamILLy," said Bielema in the official announcement on fightingillini.com.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Illinois football program," Hauck said.

Coach Hauck announced his retirement last Wednesday morning and held a press conference detailing his decision.

This will be Hauck's 6th stint with an FBS school (UCLA, Colorado, Washington, UNLV and San Diego State).

Hauck won 8 Big Sky Conference titles over 14 seasons with the Griz and leaves the conference as the all-time winningest Big Sky Conference head coach.

The Big Timber native will join the Big 10's Illinois Fighting Illini, coached by Bret Bielema. This will be Bielema's 6th season at the helm of Illinois. He has racked up a 37-26 record overall, and a robust 19-7 record over the last two seasons.

The Illini have won back-to-back bowl games for the first time since 2010-2011.
