I'll never forget the first time I watched "A River Runs Through It." I was roughly 10 years old, and had just gotten home from fishing with my Dad. Mom had rented some VHS movies to entertain her until we got back from our fishing trip. It was a Sunday and we had to return the videos the next day. She still had yet to watch the "fly fishing " movie. After the weekend I had, I was more than excited to watch a "fishing" movie. Little did I know, it was going to become a classic film.

Fishing has a way of making lifelong memories. It also has a way of creating peace for those struggling with bad memories. For many military veterans, they may physically be home, but their minds are still at war. Veterans struggle to cope with the memories of being at war. It can be a constant struggle to find peace.

Thanks to organizations like "Project Healing Waters" disabled veterans can find peace on the water. They use outdoor recreation as therapy. Teaching the art of fly fishing is a way to intervene in a patient's mental health and create post-traumatic growth and a sense of belonging... It is truly one of my favorite charity organizations around.

Organizations like "Project Healing Waters" have inspired a touching new Netflix movie that just debuted on the streaming platform. It is called "Mending the Line," and it follows a wounded Marine as he struggles to heal from the trauma of war. Not only does he have the scars to prove he spent time at war, but his mental well-being is also damaged. He finds himself leaning on another Marine veteran to teach him how to take his mind off of the horror he has witnessed. He does so by introducing the young veteran to fly fishing.
