Karelian bear dogs have a long history.  The breed has existed in Europe and Scandanavia since Neolothic times.  While their focus was once on hunting, they are now an important training resource...an essential part of the bear sheparding program of the Wind River Bear Institute in Florence, MT.

Today's program features Wind River Bear Institute Director, Carrie Hunt.  Listen to her story about how the dogs are used to help troublesome bears learn to stay away from places like homes, campgrounds, and other public places.

At the Institute, they'll even help you train your dog to be safe and secure around wildlife.  Check the website at Wind River Bear Institute.
