My oldest brother has become famous the past few Christmases for making almond roca. It was something that my mother always used to make when we were kids, but hadn’t made in a long time and my brother resurrected it. Along with bringing back the almond roca, my brother has become famous for making holiday mulled red wine.

I have to admit that hot wine didn’t sound to appealing to me at first, but once it starts simmering the smell of it makes you want to grab a mug and sip it by a roaring fire. It smells and tastes like the holidays. My brother cooked his famous mulled red wine on the stove. However, I believe that almost everything is easier to make in a crockpot, so the recipe I’m sharing is for the crockpot.

Holiday Mulled Red Wine

4 bottles dry red wine

2 cups orange juice

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/2 teaspoon allspice

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

8 cinnamon sticks

8 whole cloves

4 oranges, sliced

Pour the wine and orange juice into the crockpot. Slowly stir the sugar in to the wine. Sprinkle the cinnamon and allspice on to the wine. Toss the cinnamon sticks and the cloves and orange slices on top of the wine. Cook on low for 4 hours.

After the 4 hours are up, stir the wine and then serve. Turn the crockpot on low and leave the lid off. Keep enjoying the rest of the day.
