Watch: Little Lolo School Finally Moved to New Home
Quite the sight in Lolo late Thursday night, as the old Lolo School was moved across town to a new home for the first time in more than a century.
The school, built in the early 1900s, was all that remained of the historic school site, which was sold after the district moved to a new campus two years ago.
Developers had razed all the other buildings last winter to make way for a big housing project. And when they decided the school didn't fit into those plans, the community stepped forward to raise about $50,000 to move the donated building to the Holt Heritage Center, just up Highway 12.

Last night, Highway 93 was shut down as the building, complete with its bell tower, was moved about a mile to its new home up Highway 12.
The movers made short work of the project, smoothly pulling out onto the closed highway and cruising past all the landmarks, as residents fanned out of the Hayloft with their phones to document the move. Some told me it reminded them of when the "megaloads" came through town after crossing Lolo Pass a few years ago. Others had memories of the building, not so much attending classes, but remembering it being used as office space in the closing years of the campus.
The Holt Family already has a site excavated for where the building will rest, and plans to ease it off the truck in the coming days. Then, they'll do some renovation and rehab, with the plans to eventually open the school to the public.
