Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On April 13th, 2023, at approximately 12:44 p.m., the Missoula Police School Resource Officer assigned to Hellgate High School received incomplete information about a social media post circulating among students. Police Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett explains.

“This post indicated that an unnamed person was in possession of a firearm,” Bennett said. “Due to the unknown threat to students, numerous Missoula Police Department officers responded to Hellgate High School. The on-scene investigation determined that the suspect was not a Hellgate student, that the firearm was observed at a location off-campus, and that no direct threats were made towards students or staff.”

According to Bennett, MPD Officers located and arrested the suspect, a 16-year-old male, in the 900 block of Cregg Lane. A firearm was recovered during the arrest. The suspect is currently being held on a probation hold and a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

This investigation is ongoing. KGVO will provide more information when it becomes available.
