The men's Grizzlies basketball team won their conference opener at home against Portland State, 75-64.

Montana opened up the game pedal to the metal. They had held a decent lead over ten the whole first half. Led by Will Cherry with 15 points, Montana went into halftime with a 43-24 lead. They pushed the tempo early and did a good job getting easy points and keeping the pressure off the team to score.

Montana had a bit of a scare as Cherry went down with a little over a minute left in the game with a leg injury. Cherry did get to the bench under his own power and it was revealed it was only a cramp.

In the end, Coach Tinkle credited Montana's defense in the post in the victory. This gets the Griz to 8-5 and starts them off on the right foot. They will be ready to take on Eastern Washington here in Missoula on Friday.
