The Chief Product Officer of the U.S. Green Building Council, Scott Horst, will visit Hellgate High School on Tuesday to meet with students and school officials over ways to make the school more energy efficient should the anticipated bond issue pass.

Hellgate Principal Lisa Hendrix said Horst has two nephews who attend the school.

"We're super excited to have Mr. Horst," Hendrix said. "He has family in the area, and his nephews belong to our Smart Schools 2020 Committee. The more we got into the design and what the possibilities are with making Hellgate High School a sustainable building, then Scott's name came up, and he's interested in sharing his knowledge with us."

Hellgate High School, like every school in the district, has been working on a design process to update the school since 2013.  The conceptual design for Hellgate has been reviewed by the MCPS Board of Trustees and makes up the MCPS Smart School 2020 plan.

If passed by voters, a $70 million bond for the high school district will fund upgrades to Hellgate High School as well as Sentinel, Big Sky, Seeley Swan and the Willard Alternative High School Program.

Horst will be at the school from 8:30 am till about 12:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.
