Great Weather Forecast for Missoula Marathon
Meteorologists are no longer predicting severe thunderstorms for the Missoula Marathon this weekend and runners can expect cool temperatures in a weather report packed with good news.
"The weather system we were worried about is transitioning over into a widespread rain shower, not so much severe thunderstorms, there may be one or two, but it looks more like a wide-spread, on-and-off rainfall kind of deal," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Leeann Allegretto. "The even better news is that it is going to be cooler. We are looking at highs not getting above 75 degrees for Saturday, I know a lot of people will be pretty happy about that."
Allegretto summed up the weather report by saying that Saturday would be good and Sunday would be even better, with similar cool temperatures and a little more sun. The rain (which is supposed to be lighter) should start on Friday June 9 and should hit again around mid-morning on the 10th with more light rainfall into the afternoon.
Aside from good news for the Marathon, Montanans in areas near bad burn scars from the past can rest a little easier too. The risk of mudslides in areas like where the Lolo Complex fire was don't seem as likely.
"It is still possible," Allegretto said," but we believe that it is more likely to happen in Idaho than Montana."
Of course, this is just a weather forecast... who knows for sure what will happen.
