With the government shutdown reaching the 30 day mark, the University of Montana is making Grizzly basketball tickets available to furloughed government workers at no cost.

Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations Brynn Molloy has details.

“We are offering two complimentary tickets for any Griz or Lady Griz basketball game throughout the remainder of the shutdown, which we hope ends sooner than later, for any furloughed government employee,” Molloy said.

She explains why the athletic department is extending the offer of free tickets.

“Montana, per capita, is one of the state’s most affected by the government shutdown, so it’s just a small token and hopefully a sense of relief that we can offer to people to come and enjoy a basketball game on us.”

Molloy said there is a caveat to the offer of free tickets.

“We’re hoping the government shutdown doesn’t last that long, but if we are still in a shutdown by February 23rd for the Griz-Cat Basketball games, those are the only games that are excluded because those tickets are selling briskly.”

Furloughed employees can show their valid government ID at the Adams Center Box Office for two general admission tickets.

The first game to be included in the offer will be Saturday, when the Lady Griz face Idaho at 2 p.m.
