A Fort Shaw property owner has been charged with keeping horses and other animals in what authorities describe as "unacceptable" conditions.

Lisa Jean Cano appeared in District Court on Friday on a felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty and a misdemeanor charge of unlawful disposition of a dead animal.

She is accused of keeping 11 horses on her property with moldy hay and little water. Court documents say the horses were bony and malnourished and one had an untreated wound.

Cascade County Sheriff's deputies say they found the skull and vertebrae of a dead horse on her property. A phone number for Cano could not be found.
