Former UM Student Accused of Multiple Sex Crimes Appears in Court [YouTube]
A former University of Montana student accused of multiple sexual offenses appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Friday via video from the Missoula County Jail.
According to court records, Jeremy St. Goddard, 28, stands accused of nine misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, misdemeanor sexual assault, assault with reasonable apprehension of bodily injury, and indecent exposure. The offenses allegedly occurred both on and off the University of Montana campus, starting in November, 2013.
Deputy Missoula County Attorney Shawn Thomas asked Justice of the Peace Amy Blixt for a high bail.
"Given the facts in this affidavit and the number and nature of the offenses, the state is concerned about the safety of the community. The defendant has a prior sex conviction, an aggravated sexual abuse conviction from 2005," Thomas said. "The state is asking for $50,000 bail with standard conditions, including no contact with Bio-Life, the UM campus and any of the victims."
Judge Blixt denied a request by the public defender to reduce St. Goddard's bail from $50,000 to $1,000 and allow him to return home with an ankle monitoring device. Bail was set at $50,000, and St. Goddard's next appearance will be October 5.
He was returned to the Missoula County Jail.
St. Goddard was the subject of a combined investigation by the University and Missoula City Police Departments. They pooled their records and resources and identified St. Goddard, who confessed to the incidents when confronted by city police detectives.
