Flash Flood Watch Issued For Western Montana
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Western Montana from noon till 9 p.m. Friday night.
Meteorologist Jeff Kitzmiller said on Friday afternoon that an intense storm cell will be coming through the area through Friday night.
"We have a really moist weather system coming through the area today, much like yesterday, but there's a little more moisture to these cells today," Kitzmiller said. "These cells are strating to form already, and we're expecting some pretty heavy rain. Because of that, we've put out a flash flood watch which extends from I-90 south, like Missoula and some of our burned out ares like the Lolo Creek Complex, all the way down to Butte. We have the storms already beginning to form and they'll probably end by about 9 o'clock tonight."
Kitzmiller said residents and drivers need to pay special attention in a flash flood situation.
"One of the main things is to not drive through it, because you don't know is the road is still there under that standing water," he said. "And, in the burned out areas, a flash flood can be especially dangerous, because there's no vegetation to slow it down. So if you see heavy rain developing, get to higher ground as soon as possible."
