UPDATE---The vaccination clinic for Sunday is filled.

Missoula County’s first COVID 19 mass vaccination clinic will be this Sunday, January 31 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Adams Center on the University of Montana campus.

Public Information Officer Nick Holloway provided details of the first ever clinic, which will be by appointment only.

“We're going to hold a vaccination clinic on Sunday at the Adam center from 7:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m., and people need to schedule a time for a vaccination,” said Holloway. “We're not taking walk-ins, and they can schedule a vaccination time at COVID-19 dot missoula.co. We are encouraging people to self schedule by using the link on that website. But if they do need a little extra help, they can call 258-INFO (4636) and we'll get them a little help with scheduling there.”

Holloway said the clinic is only for those in the groups 1A and 1 B.

“This is for 1A and some 1B folks,” he said. “Anytime we go up to 1 B the lower level folks are still get vaccinated. So that's 1A, but it's not all of the 1B folks. We’re vaccinating 1B folks in tiers, and so the first tier, for this vaccination clinic will include folks 70 and over and or American Indians and people of color ages 16 to 69.”

Holloway said each person will be scheduled at a certain time so the Adams Center won’t be overrun with people.

“We're doing exact times,” he said. “We need people to get there about 10 minutes early, wait in their car until about five minutes before their actual vaccination time, have the paperwork ready and have their insurance card. Now, anybody can get a vaccine, whether they have insurance or not, but please their insurance card ready if they are insured, their ID and the paperwork that comes after they have filled out our scheduling form. The vaccination itself will occur after they've been checked in and then they'll need to wait around for the required 15 minutes to make sure they don't have an adverse reaction.”

Holloway emphasized that only those with pre-scheduled appointments will receive their vaccinations, so please don’t just show up and hope to receive a vaccination.

“Because of the limited supplies, they won't get a vaccination,” he said. “They really have to schedule it in advance. We only have just slightly over 400 vaccines and obviously that doesn't come close to the need out there. So, you get scheduled and then you come, and when we run out of vaccine, that's all we have. It's a matter of our vaccine availability.”

Staff and students with UM’s Health Services Pharmacy, operated by the Skaggs School of Pharmacy, will administer vaccinations at the clinic. The Health Services Pharmacy is one of 26 vaccine providers registered to administer the COVID-19 vaccine in Missoula County; however, the current limiting factor is the availability of vaccine.
