The spectrUM Discovery Area closed their downtown location in September of 2016, but they are opening the doors of their new home at 812 Toole Avenue on Friday, June 9. Head of the Educational Program Jessie Herbert-Meny explains.

“We have our sneak peek on Friday, June 9 from noon to 3 p.m. and then we will be starting our soft opening hours on June 21,” said Herbert-Meny. “The big dipper ice cream truck will be here. The first 100 kids will get a free big dipper ice cream cone. We have a special guest animal wonders coming as well from noon to 2 p.m.”

According to Herbert-Meny, spectrUM is a hands-on science museum where kids of all ages can participate in science activities. She says the new location will have some of the favorite exhibits from the past and some that are brand new.

“We have a brand new drone net that we can fly all sorts of things underneath, a virtual watershed exhibit, as well as some of our favorites like our water table and erosion table,” Herbert-Meny said. “We also have our discovery bench where a new activity will be happening every day.”

Herbert-Meny says a soft opening will begin on June 21 and they will be open Wednesday through Saturday during the summer. A grand opening is expected in the fall.
