MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Two fire departments have called off plans to stop responding to accidents on Interstate 90 in Mineral County after officials set up a conflict-resolution team in hopes of settling a feud between firefighters and the Montana Highway Patrol.

The county attorney told county commissioners Wednesday that the Montana State Fire Chiefs Association agreed to set up the team.

Volunteer fire departments in De Borgia and St. Regis had threatened to suspend responses to traffic accidents on the interstate and on Highway 135 starting Thursday if they don't receive a written guarantee of more courtesy by the Highway Patrol at crash scenes.

Earlier Wednesday, the Superior Volunteer Fire Department said it would help out on I-90 if the two districts decided to "stand down."
