Federal Prison Camp Escapee Crashes During Interstate 90 Chase
HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Montana authorities say a man who escaped from a minimum-security prison in Colorado crashed a stolen vehicle during a high-speed chase on Interstate 90.
Gary Conti Jr. walked away from the Federal Prison Camp at Englewood on Friday.
The week before, a federal court rejected the 69-year-old Conti's appeal of a conviction of participating in a scheme to defraud a Blackfeet Tribe youth program.
Bozeman Police Chief Steven Crawford says Conti led his officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle just after 1 a.m. Monday.
Crawford says Conti swerved to avoid spike strips authorities had laid across the roadway, and the fugitive struck a parked Park County vehicle.
Crawford says Conti was taken to a hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
