DOJ On University of Montana Campus This Week To Question Students [YouTube]
Officials with the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education have been on the University of Montana campus this week talking privately with students about how they are perceiving changes and improvements regarding the issue of sexual assaults.
Vice President for Integrated Communications, Peggy Kuhr, said the visit was expected by UM officials.
"This is a standard practice for the federal government as part of the ongoing compliance and part of their opportunity to see on the ground what's going on at the University of Montana with training and resources and student opportunities," Kuhr said. "For about three days, they want to meet with students and hear of their experiences with reporting any kind of discrimination or sexual assault. But, more importantly, students' experiences with all the training opportunities we offer."
The University of Montana, Missoula Police and the Missoula County Attorney's Office all have agreements with the U.S. government regarding their investigations into reported sexual assaults both on campus and in the community.
The Justice Department Civil Rights Division and the Department of Education have similar agreements with over 100 college campuses across the United States.
