The Board of Pardons and Parole announced today that a clemency hearing will be held for Ronald A. Smith. The Executive director for the board of pardons and parole, Fern Osler spoke with KGVO News about that process.

In the past, Smith has admitted to killing two men in August of 1982. The two men, Harvey Mad Man and Thomas Running Rabbit offered Smith a ride in their car. Smith led the two men into the woods at gunpoint and shot them in the head with a .22 caliber rifle. Smith was sentenced to death in 1983 and, as the only Canadian on death row in the United States, has become the source of some international outrage. Smith’s clemency hearing is set to occur on May second.
