Lightning storms Monday night in the Bitterroot Valley and surrounding mountains brought dozens of calls to Ravalli County 9-1-1 dispatchers between 5 and 7 pm. Sheriff Chris Hoffman says deputies responded to many calls of downed trees and power lines, and small lightning-caused fires.

Hoffman says one tree fell on a vehicle causing minor injuries to the passengers. Hoffman says due to the extremely dry and hot conditions, Ravalli County Commissioners have closed the open burning season and are asking all residents to use extreme caution with fire.
