Yes, there were thunderstorms this weekend in the Bitterroot Valley. A steady rumble with brilliant flashes rolled through the area for about three hours early Sunday morning. Bitterroot National Forest officials said firefighters responded to six small lightning strikes. Most were contained by Monday morning, including the Sheeps Head fire in the Darby/Sula Ranger District.

Active fires on the forest as of early Monday are all small blazes, according the Bitterroot Forest's Facebook page - less than a 10th of an acre.

  • Spotters will keeping alert for "holdover" lightning fires that may flare up as the temperatures warm this week.
