Our main guy for KLYQ's Bitterroot Outdoor Journal, Bob Danley, saw a Monarch butterfly in his home garden this week. Bob says figures show that the population of the beautiful butterfly has dropped 14 percent this year, but 370 U.S. mayors have signed the Mayors Monarch Pledge and will try to protect and expand monarch butterfly habitat. The National Pollinator Garden Network has over 700,000 pollinator gardens and over 150,000 Americans have signed up as Butterfly Heroes.

The wildflower of the week is the Wintergreen - specifically the Pink Wintergreen (see photo below). It's found on the valley floor near the Bitterroot River. Bob also talks about how wet weather affects the birds in our weekly report - the Bitterroot Outdoor Journal. Tune in Thursday mornings about 7:45 a.m on KLYQ 1240 AM or www.klyq.com or the KLYQ App on your smartphone or the KLYQ skill on your home's smart speaker.
