25 year-old Terrance Reynolds is in the Missoula County Jail on a felony charge of assault with a weapon after allegedly swinging an ax at four men outside a motel in East Missoula.

Court documents indicate that Reynolds was in a motel room with a woman early Thursday morning when he approached four men who were being loud and told them to quiet down and he then became aggressive.

Accounts differ as to what happened next, but Reynolds returned to his vehicle and retrieved a ‘Pulaski’ ax. He then returned to the men and began swinging the ax at them.

One of the men went inside a nearby bar and told the bartender to call 9-1-1 because “things are about to get really violent out here.” Another of the men stated that he was ‘terrified' that he would hurt one of the men with the ax, and then disarmed Reynolds.

Another witness confirmed that Reynolds instigated the altercation.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived they spoke with the four men and then arrested Reynolds for assault with a weapon. He was placed in the Missoula County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Karla Painter said bail was set at $5,000 in Missoula Justice Court.
