The Montana Highway Patrol says two people died after a pickup truck hit a train car north of Sidney.

The patrol says the driver was eastbound on a Richland County road shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday when he apparently failed to notice the rail car parked on the tracks. The patrol says the pickup broadsided the rail car and became wedged underneath it.

Coroner Marvin Johnson says that 46-year-old James Dean Morrow died at the scene and 53-year-old Cheryl L. Johnston died of her injuries early Wednesday at a Billings hospital. Their home towns were not immediately available.

Johnson says crews had to use a farm tractor to pull the pickup out from under the rail car.
