If cold temperatures and snow stay, snowmobilers will likely be able to hit the trails up near Lolo Pass soon. According to Missoulasnowgoers.org, grooming has already begun.

"They are going to start grooming in the next six to seven days due to the recent cold temperatures and snow we've had,' said Lolo National Forest Spokesman Boyd Hartwig. "Kind of a snow start to winter, but at this point they've got enough snow up there and its been sticking around, which is good."

Also starting this week are avalanche warnings for Western Montana.

"The West Central Montana Avalanche Center is going to send their first avalanche advisory out on Friday December 12," Hartwig said. "There's already been an avalanche fatality in Montana. The advisories and the forecasting is a good way to prepare for backcountry, before you leave the house."
